Sewn: Burda 5/2020 #115 Sleeveless Top
If there is any excuse to subscribe to Burda Magazine, then that time must be now! Armed with my first magazine (5/2020) and a new sheaf of tissue paper, I was ready to embark on sewing something and there were three items in this issue that really caught my eye: the long flowing dress (109), the asymmetrical top (120) and this one (115).

Feeling inspired by the Transformation Challenge of the Great British Sewing Bee (and not having any other suitable fabric to hand), I embarked on transforming a RTW dress from East into this top. I loved the fabric (it’s just polyester but the pattern is interesting) but the dress never did suit me. Even better, I had the perfect little button for it in my large jar of buttons that I will never get to the bottom of!

The back is formed in two pieces which go over the front shoulder as a yoke. The front neck is gathered and the back is finished with a button and loop.
I made a couple of fitting errors:
A) I forgot to add the seam allowance (schoolboy error)!
B) I think I should have graded from Size 38 at the bust to 40 at the waist and hips as it is a little too skimming of the bits of me I don’t want to accentuate!
Most of the inside finish I am happy with, apart from the inside of the back slit. I do really struggle with cutting such slippery fabric it isn’t as even as I would have liked.
It was my first time making a thread loop, and I found this tutorial by Tessuti really useful.
In conclusion, it was a fairly quick make and is really nice to wear. Now to just tone up my arms so I can wear it when lockdown is over 😉!
