Sewn: Assembly Line Apron Dress

Emma wears a home sewn green pinafore

This was on my 2020 sewing plans and I did actually sew this last year. I could not find any information online about whether the back skirt was open or not - let me reassure you that it is not. There will be no underwear flashing with this one!

Pattern
This is the first pattern I have sewn by The Assembly Line and although it was expensive, it was well worth it - both the pattern and instructions were spot on and so easy to follow.

Materials
I was a bit nervous about using poppers/snaps for the first time and I bought the Prym pliers* to do this. This was the most complicated part of the whole sew (the rest was an absolute dream), but getting the folds and snaps right required full concentration. The fabric is a dark green twill which I think I bought from PoundaMetre. It is medium weight and feels quite hardwearing. It washes and dries beautifully - I don't think I have ironed it yet.

Alterations
I did shorten the length a little as I thought it was slightly unflattering, and it is surprisingly difficult to shorten something where you only have the skirt portion at the back. Next time, I will definitely shorten it at the cutting stage.

Make it Again?
The pinafore dress has become one of my wardrobe staples. I am just as happy wearing this around the house at the weekend, or out for a walk or even occasionally at work. I love the pockets and the fact that I can add a multitude of tops under it to ring the changes. If I make it again, I will probably make it in a needlecord, I really feel it would suit a heavier weight fabric.
