Life: March 2026: Exhibitions, Spring, Sound Bath and a New Quilt
Sound Bath
February and March are always a really stressful time at work for me, so when I saw that there was a sound bath coming to a location near me, I booked myself in. I arrived in a very lovely village hall with a sea of hammocks, and low lighting and got tucked in with a blanket and had some relaxing lavender oil on my forehead. The sound bath was very relaxing for me, although irritatingly there were at least 3 or 4 other people who fell asleep and then started snoring which made me tense up again! Maybe an experience to only be repeated on my own...
Grayson Perry Exhibition, RAMM, Exeter
We went to a couple of exhibitions this month. The first being the small Grayson Perry Aspects of Myself exhibition at the Royal Albert Memorial Museum in Exeter which is on until 3 May 2026 (small entry fee). I had very little knowledge of Grayson Perry's work and I found it really fascinating, especially the tapestries. I also loved his little teddy, Alan Measles.
Don McCullin Exhibition, Hauser & Wirth, Somerset
The Don McCullin.90 exhibition is showing until 12 April 2026 (free entry) and commemorates his 90th birthday. His photojournalism is really quite something to behold. The Oudolf field behind the gallery was open but not really enough signs of life to be really impressive just yet. I didn't take any photos of the exhibition itself.
A Sad Goodbye
We said a sad goodbye to my lovely stepbrother, Danny Coughlan (of Crybaby and TracyAnne & Danny). He was so talented and designed a lot of the interiors for the Cosy Club restaurants. He was also a very accomplished artist and some of his works were displayed after his funeral.
Autumn Quilt
What better time to start a new autumnal quilt, than in the Spring! I am thinking that if I start now, I may get it finished for the autumn. I have chosen this wonderful set of colours and am going to use the Fall Leaves Quilt pattern by Cluck Cluck Sew. The fat quarter bundle is Confetti Solids Autumn by Riley Blake, and I have some pieces of fabric from the Abandoned Fabric collection by Tim Holtz. I am currently at the cutting out stage.
Shell Embroidery
I did complete my Natural History Museum shell embroidery kit this month though, which I found very relaxing. It was nice to have something portable that I could pick up at lunchtimes or odd times and just sew a little.
Signs of Spring
The recent nice weather has made me get out and about a bit more for walks. The first weekend in March, we hired a guide at RSPB Ham Wall for two hours and spent the time learning about the conversation on the site and all the wonderful birds there. We were really lucky to hear the bittern booming quite a few times and learned to identify some of the wetland birds.
We also went to The Newt (two photos above) for the first time this year on a glorious sunny day.
Cats and Kittens
Finally, Hector the ragdoll kitten is really getting friendly with his older brothers. He is really keeping us on our toes, and we love them all so much. He is such a contrast to the big Maine Coons and really is as floppy as they say ragdolls are!
