Sewn: Fibremood Freja Trousers
There is nothing quite like a deadline to get you throwing some fabric at your sewing machine. My deadline was the holiday in Iceland (full post here) because I felt I needed a new pair of trousers. I had some beautiful teal Merchant & Mills linen in my stash that I had bought from Draper's Daughter.
Having no time to buy a pattern, I trawled through the Fibremood magazines I had and settled upon the Freja trousers. These are smart-ish wide legged trousers with pleat fronts and pockets but with an elasticated waist. They are completely the kind of trousers I would have scoffed at in my younger years, but now I'm in my fifties will happily embrace the ease and comfort!
This isn't really much of a pattern review because they were actually very straightforward to make and I encountered no problems.
I added three belt loops (two in the front and one in the centre back), because I thought I might want to add a belt to disguise the elastic waist.
They wear well, and although we all know what a pain in the arse linen is for creasing, I love them all the same.
And by the way, it was actually too cold in Iceland in September for linen trousers, but I wore them for a night out in Reykjavik anyway!
Bonus picture included of the wonderful Patrick Grant of Sewing Bee fame who was talking about his book "Less" yesterday at the Yeovil Literary Festival. Thought it was appropriate for me to wear something I had made, so the Freja trousers and Hovea jacket did the trick!
Love Mrs Jones x
