Life: Weekend in Bristol February 2024

It was my husband's birthday this week, so at the weekend we had a little trip to Bristol. It seems a little funny staying in a location so near - it takes less than an hour to get there, but we particularly wanted to revisit a restaurant that we like and it made sense to stay over.

Fry's Chocolate Display

Oakham Treasures

En route to Bristol we visited Oakham Treasures, which is a stone's throw from the Gordano junction of the M5. Wow, what a fascinating place! 

The Grocery Store

It is literally packed with items mainly centred around retail or farming. 

The Pharmacy

There is a complete grocery store, post office and pharmacy, and just so much to look at. I feel like I am almost at that age where visits like this are a little trip down memory lane!

Bristol Museum and Art Gallery

After a lunch stop at Brown's (a ridiculously runny camembert with bread to dip in), we had a wander around the museum and art gallery. I always end up taking photos of weird things, like these cute bats...

...and skinny mummified cats!

Square Club

The main attraction for us was dinner at The Square Club, the restaurant attached to Berkeley Square Hotel where we staying. It is a private members club for professionals in the film, media and creative industries, but is also open to guests at the hotel! 

Dinner was divine - here is the menu:

I went for the grilled mackerel followed by the beef. I have never had haggis before, but that was surprisingly tasty.

Cabot Tower

Before leaving Bristol, I made a post-breakfast trip up to the Cabot Tower in Brandon Hill. This was actually a very short walk from our hotel. 

There were squirrels everywhere you turned! Had it not been so early or so windy, I might have climbed up to the top of the tower to look at the view, but I actually felt a little vulnerable on my own, so enjoyed the view from the surrounding park.
