Travel: Corbieres, France 2023 - Nature and Animals

Continuing on our little trip to France this Autumn, one of the loveliest things low key things that we did was wandering around the salt flats on the boardwalks at Peyriac-de-Mer where we were lucky enough to spot flamingo and pelican in the wild.

We travelled here fairly early in the morning and the low sun across the water was just beautiful.

The walk is probably only a couple of kilometres but it is such a beautiful location. Do be warned to apply plenty of mosquito repellent though.

We were so lucky to see the flamingo and pelican - I don't have a good photograph of the pelicans. It was a bird spotter's paradise. We even saw a kingfisher dart back and forth across the water - it was mesmerising.

The African reserve at Sigean is another great day out. There are two parts to this wildlife park: one is a self-drive safari and the other is a more traditional zoo on foot. It doesn't matter which order you do it in, but you do have to book in advance.

Naturally, we arrived pretty much as the zoo opened and headed straight to the safari part. I'm always a bit nervous of safaris (we always hear horror stories of the monkeys at Longleat), but we didn't have anything to fear here...even with a bear in the middle of the road!

There was an amazing area where you could sit and have lunch or a drink looking down onto the savannah. It was so peaceful that we visited this area twice.

I know the pygmy goats in the petting section are really for children, but who can resist?!

A fabulous trip to France during September 2023 - we will be back.
