Sewn: Make My Lemonade Frankie and Travel: Weekend in Lacock
I purchased the Frankie wrap dress pattern back last year, where it has sat on my shelf, waiting for me to purchase 4.2m of fabric ever since. Well, last month I popped down to Heathcoat Fabrics in Tiverton and fell in love with this beautiful green cotton print. I had an anniversary weekend to wear it to, so thought it was time to sew! So, this actually took me less than a week to construct.
I’ve never bought or made a Make My Lemonade pattern before. I actually stumbled on their website looking for Felindra (but where am I ever going to wear a dress with an integrated cape), and fell in love with pretty much all the patterns!
The instructions say to base your size on your bust measurement, which put me at a Size 36. I think I should probably have gone for a size larger, but the nature of the wrap and where to place the button on the inside is pretty forgiving.
I’m not bowled over by the written instructions. Not sure whether they are lost in translation (French to English), but there are some bits completely missing (joining the bias binding together for one). However, they do also have a very useful YouTube video on the construction.
So, seeing as my dress was for a dinner, I sewed two buttons on the inside of the wrap (one before dinner, and one for after)! I love the way this dress looks in the fairly crisp cotton, but could also see it looking fantastic in a more draping fabric. I absolutely love the neat finish on this dress - some of the seams are French seams, and the sleeves are fully lined, so you can roll them up. It is a complete fabric hog though.
We stayed at Sign of the Angel, Lacock and had an absolutely wonderful dinner. It was early April and still a little chilly in the evenings, and they had the open fire lit. Just magical. Lacock village is very pretty and the Abbey (which has been used in the Harry Potter film sets) is definitely worth a visit.
