2025 and a new bit of sewing: way to start the year with a bang! During one of the many journeys to and from Bournemouth I have done over the past three years, I finally decide to actually stop en route in Dorchester and pop in to the fabric shop I usually drive past. Well, that was a fatal mistake, as I came out with some gorgeous sweatshirt fabric and some floral denim like fabric.

I already had this Fibremood Elaine sweatshirt on my to-sew list and was keen to get cracking on it whilst I am still in need of something warm to wear. The weather is finally actually quite wintery here, which is nice for a walk, but horribly cold when working from home.

I ordered the ribbed band from a shop on Etsy: I love the colour contrast which gives it a bit of an 80s vibe. I'll be honest, I had no idea what I should be ordering, but the band came in a continuous loop which just needed a bit of the length removing.

This was such a straightforward sew really. I sewed a size Small as per instructions to fit to your bust size. It states that it is an oversize fit. The majority of the sewing was done on the overlocker, which just makes it all so much easier. Obviously, the top stitching was done on my usual Janome.

I particularly love the shaped darts in the sleeve which give a gentle balloon effect, and I added my own little Mrs Jones label on the end of one of the sleeves. I thought that was a nice touch and probably a bit more comfortable than putting it in the back facing.

The only thing that irritates me a little is the facing which, although tacked down at the shoulder seams and understitched, still seems to want to fold the wrong way. However, as you can see, it is actually in need of a good pressing, so that may well rectify it.

I still have almost a metre of this fabric left which is a little annoying, although I have just seen a great post on instagram about creating sweatshirts out of scraps...

Love Mrs Jones x
