Life: February 2023
At work, February is a very busy and stressful month, so on my non-work days, I have spent more time enjoying the outside than I have doing crafts or sewing. It's good to get outside even if the weather isn't perfect.
Rural Time Exhibition - Richard Liversidge
Watchet is a very small fishing port on the north Somerset coast, and I was really surprised to learn that it has a very modern art gallery complex called East Quay. We went to check out the Rural Time exhibition by Richard Liversidge. This is showing until 8th May 2023.
The exhibition includes random items that the artist has put stamps on and posted directly to the gallery...including an oar!
Watchet also has a Boat Museum which was quite quirky. The ladies in the tourist info opened it especially for us!
Sculpd Candle Kit
For Christmas, my eldest son bought me a Make your Own Candle kit from Sculpd. The kit not only contained all the ingredients to make the scented candle, but also some air dried clay to make the candle pot.
Despite being quite creative, it turns out that I am terrible at forming a simple pot. I did once have a go on a pottery wheel, and the results of that weren't too great either! Luckily, my son's girlfriend was able to rescue my pot and turn it into something that at least would hold wax.
There are no paints included, but I don't need much of an excuse to buy more art materials.
Snowdrop Valley
How wonderful to go for a winter walk and chance upon a few bobbing heads of snowdrops. Well Snowdrop Valley is like that on acid. There are so many in this privately owned valley and it is a spectacular sight that is well worth a visit.
I won't lie - the walk down is steep and muddy but you can arrange for a land rover taxi if you are unable (or unwilling) to walk. There are three routes down from the main carpark, and we opted for the medium length one which took us just over an hour.
It is an annual event (open from late January to late February), so put a reminder in your calendar for next year!
Dawlish Warren
Last Sunday was a beautiful day. Cold but sunny, so we thought we would pop down to the beach and walk between Dawlish Warren and Dawlish. We are gradually picking off bits of the South West Coast Path.
We ended up just walking from the warren to the river mouth - which looks over towards Exmouth (see last photo). Given that it was half-term, it was pretty quiet. You wouldn't believe that right behind this beautiful beach is a very touristy small amusement park.
