Days Out: Victorian Christmas at Tyntesfield
This week, we chanced upon the month-long Victorian Christmas event at Tyntesfield, near Bristol. Tyntesfield is a National Trust property that I had not visited before, I believe it was purchased by the National Trust at a similar time to when we stopped being family members, and for many years it has been being renovated or restored.
The moment, we drove in, I knew we were in for a treat, as there were giant Christmas wreaths on the gates and the trees lining the drive had decorative bows. Entrance to the Victorian Christmas is by timed ticket (this may be purchased in advance - we just turned up and got in to the first timing).
All the staff are dressed as Victorians, either as part of the Gibb family who lived there or their staff. There were carols around the tree in the hall as we arrived. It was a really magical feeling.
Every space had been made festive, either with greenery or a Christmas tree or gifts or cards. I love that there was a plate of mince pies on the writing desk for whoever was writing their cards.
In the servants quarters, there were activities (I suspect for children, but they let me have a go): making Christmas crackers or wreath decorations.
It was such a special experience, if you are in the area on a weekday before Christmas (I imagine it will be really busy at weekends), I urge you to go. There is no additional charge to the normal entry fee.
Love Mrs Jones x
