Banksy Walking Tour, Bristol

Half term holidays are never much fun when it is grey and wet, and here in Somerset, I think we have had enough of this dull weather! It is increasingly difficult to find something that might pique the interest of a 12 year old and a 16 year old, and my suggestion of a look at some of Banksy's work in Bristol was not dismissed out of hand!

We parked at @Bristol and walked up towards the cathedral and college green, onto Park Street. A little along Park Street, heading uphill there is a bridge and next to this is Well Hung Lover.

I love this one, with the woman standing back in her undies with her suspecting husband looking out the window. We continued uphill to the Bristol Museum and Art Gallery where there is a Banksy in the foyer:

The museum itself has lots of weird and wonderful things, some of which my husband said he remembered were there from when he was a boy!
When you come back out of the museum, and look back down the road, you see this:

This is fairly new (2013) and I believe it is still in doubt as to whether it actually is a Banksy or not. I like it though, and it does seem very like his style.

At this point, we diverted onto a Slave Trade trail which my husband was looking into to see if it would be useful for his students, and we headed towards the old city, and the market, then on to Queens Square.

On the last stretch of the route, we spotted this Banksy on a boat in the Mud Docks.

If you are interested in doing a similar walk, I have plotted our path below. I confess that I am a little hazy as to where the old city and market actually is! Some of the other highlights were Llandoger Trow and Hole in the Wall from Treasure Island.

  1. Thanks for the tip. I'm afraid that in spite of having lived in the UK for the first 26 years of my life, I've never been to Bristol. I'm glad you enjoyed your walk; I think walking through a city is always the best way of sightseeing and a themed walk helps you look at detail without getting too tired (especially important for teenagers).

Are you on pinterest? There are loads of Banksy's on there.
